2007년 국민의료비 및 국민보건계정 = 2007 Total Health Expenditure and National Health Accounts in Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is to demonstrate Total Health Expenditure (THE) and National Health Account constructed based on the System of Health Accounts (SHA) of the OECD. Health expenditures by heading and by the number of household members that are made public in the household survey data, and the number of households by the number of household members are used for the estimation of household health expenditure. Data from the Out-of-Pocket Expenditure Survey by the National Health Insurance Corporation were additionally used for the estimation of expenditure at hospitals. Total Health Expenditure was 61.3 trillion won in 2007, which accounts for 6.8 percent (6.3% when new GDP figure applies) of Korea`s Gross Domestic Product. It was a big increase of 6.6 trillion won, 12.0 percent, from the previous year. Public share which accounts for 54.9% of the THE is lower than the average of the 24 OECD countries which produce SHA cross-tables, 74.0% (76.5%, 75.1% and 45.1% in the case of Tax-based countries, Contribution-based countries and the USA, respectively). When it comes to general government except social security funds, 12.3% of Korea is lower than the average of the Contribution-based countries, 13.3%. While the share by inpatient care expenditure in Korea, 27.9%, is lower than the OECD average, 55.3%, those by expenditures for outpatient care and medical goods are higher (33.6% compared to OECD average of 12.4% and 26.4% to 17.6%, respectively).
