Defining potential casino market segments and understanding the visit decision process of segment constituents are important issues in casino-related research. This study investigated the South Korean casino market and its segments and attempted to estimate the probability of casino visits within potential market segments. Using a sample of horse racing bettors, this study provides exploratory insights into the profile of the potential South Korean casino market. The potential casino market is first segmented based upon the importance attributes of a planned casino resort. Potential casino participation rates of each segment are then examined. The results indicate that potential casino visitors in the South Korean market may be differentiated into three distinct segments based on the importance of casino attributes. By using visitors’ gambling preferences, the expected casino participation rates were found to range from 16.5% to 28.9% for the three market segments. Implications of this study are discussed and suggestions are developed for future research.
