Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine experienced nurses' turnover intention as a novice nurse and their overcoming of the turnover intention.
Method: This exploratory study attempts to confirm experienced nurses' turnover intention as a novice nurse and their overcoming it. This study was conducted from Oct. 16 to Dec. 17, 2020 by sampling the nurses with 4~6 years career working for a general hospital located in Gyeongsangnam-do.Those 10 nurses who had agreed voluntarily to the purpose of this study and had met the criteria for the sample nurses were selected. In order to measure subjects' turnover intention, the Turnover Intention Scale (Park Hyun Sook, 2002; Lawler, 1983) was used. The data collected thus were processed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program for real numbers, percentages, Cronbach's Alpha, means, SDs and other descriptive statistics. The data about subjects' overcoming of their turnover intention were used for the contents analysis.
Results: The data about subjects' turnover intention as a novice nurse and their overcoming of it were analyzed to extract 73 meaningful statements. From such 73 statements, a total of 9 themes and 26 sub-themes were extracted. 4 themes and 11 sub-themes were about subjects' turnover intention as a novice nurse. The extracted 4 themes were 'role burden', 'fear of role performance', 'complaint about the unstable working environment' and 'wanting to turnover'. On the other hand, 5 themes and 15 sub-themes were about subjects' experience of overcoming their turnover intention. The extracted 5 themes were 'understanding of the nursing scenes', 'experiencing of the supporting system', 'satisfaction with the job', 'growing into a proficient' and 'overcoming and growing'.
