This paper tries to determine the differences between Wan-pan, Kyoung-pan, and Ansong-pan wood-block-printed novels through a comparative analysis of their texts.
It may be concluded that the Ansong-pan texts are derived from the Kyong-pan texts. The two groups often share complete identity or show minor variations.
On the other hand, the Wan-pan texts and the Kyoung-pan texts are remarkably independent from each other. According to my count of textual similarity ratio, the Hong Kil Dong Chun showed 26% ; Cho Ung Chun 39%; Ku Un Mong, 55% ; So Bae Song Chun, 40%; Sim Chong Chun, 7%; and To Byong Ga, 5%. The average bulk of a Wan-pan text is thrice as much as a Kyong-pan text. It may also be concluded that the similarity ratio between the Wan-pan and the Kyong-pan texts depends on whether the text in question is a pan so-ri novel or not.
