In the context of a global cultural circulation increasingly dependent on digital platforms, East Asian cultural exports are confronting a new form of “Othering” dilemma, reinforced by algorithmic hegemony. This predicament extends beyond traditional content bias, embedding itself within the infrastructure of platform capitalism—Western-centric algorithms and protocols systematically strip East Asian cultures of their interpretive agency, value-pricing power, and data sovereignty, forcing cultural production into a cycle of adaptive “self-Orientalization.” Starting from Edward Said’s “latent Orientalism” and Gilles Deleuze’s “societies of control,” this study dissects the technological and philosophical roots of this structural power imbalance. To seek a breakthrough, the thesis proposes a dual-track strategic framework. First, it reconceptualizes the “Regulatory Sandbox,” a tool from fintech, into an experimental apparatus for safeguarding “cultural sovereignty,” transforming it into a “digital firewall” that resists external algorithmic hegemony while nurturing an internal governance ecology. Second, it constructs a three-dimensional analytical model named “Relationship-Protocol-Governance” (RPG). This model aims to translate the East Asian social ontology—based on affect, reciprocity, and trust—into decentralized governance consensus through blockchain and smart contract technologies.
Through a comparative analysis of Web3 practices in South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong SAR, China, this research unveils the divergent paths emerging from the tension between “state, capital, and community” forces in East Asia. Ultimately, the thesis argues that the RPG governance paradigm, centered on “contribution consensus” and “organic solidarity,” can not only effectively counter the atomization and data colonialism inherent in Western contractualism but also offer a “non-Western Web3 imagination” for the global digital order, steering it toward an ecological future characterized by pluralistic symbiosis and mutual recognition.
