This study verified the effectiveness of the “Geungpyeong Welfare Model”, a practical model for integrated care in rural communities. Health care, nursing care, daily life, and leisure culture services were integrated and provided centering on the on-village care center in Jeungpyeong-gun, and the design before and after the unequal control group was applied to the elderly over 65 years of age. As a result of the 6-month intervention, the experimental group showed statistically significant changes, such as a decrease in depression, improved social support, and alleviated feelings of loneliness compared to the control group. In the repeated measurement analysis of variance, the interaction between the group × time points was significant in all three variables. This proves that region-based integrated care has a practical effect of improving the emotional and social well-being of the elderly. In addition, the simultaneous improvement of social support, alleviation of loneliness, and reduction of depression is the result of reaffirming the buffering effect of social support and the mediating effect of loneliness. This study suggests the possibility of establishing a sustainable integrated care model even in rural areas, and suggests the direction of policy improvement in institutionalization, employment stability of manpower, and medical linkage in the future.
