거짓말쟁이 문장은 무모순율의 반례인가? = Is the Liar Sentence a counter-example of the Law of Non-Contradiction?

국문 초록 (Abstract)

프리스트는 거짓말쟁이 문장을 양진문장이라고 주장함으로써 거짓말쟁이 역설을 해결하고자 시도한다. 즉 프리스트의 초일관주의 논리체계인 LP에 따르면, 거짓말쟁이 문장은 LNC의 반례이다. 그러나 이러한 해결의 첫 번째 난점은 ‘거짓말쟁이 문장은 양진문장이다’는 주장도 또한 양진적이라는 점이다. 이 문제는 LP 자체에 비일관성이 포함된다는 문제와 그러한 논리체계에서는 주장과 거부를 적절하게 표현할 수 없다는 화용론적인 문제를 낳는다. 물론 프리스트에게 LP 자체가 비일관적이라는 것은 그렇게 심각한 문제가 아닐 수 있다. 그러나 하나의 문장이 참이면서 동시에 거짓인 양진문장이 있다고 주장하는 초일관주의적 양진주의는 어떤 주장에 대해서 동의하지 않음을 표현할 수 없다는 화용론적 비판은 대답되어야 할 문제이다. 이러한 화용론적인 문제를 해결하기 위해서 ‘그 문장이 단지 거짓이다’고 주장할 수 있겠지만, 이는 다시 LP에서 적절하게 표현할 수 없거나, 적절하게 표현하기 위해서 LP를 수정하면 다시 복수의 문제에 부딪힌다. 결국 거짓말쟁이 역설을 해결하기 위해서 제시된 프리스트의 초일관주의 논리체계는 성공적이지 않으며, 따라서 거짓말쟁이 문장을 LNC의 반례로 받아들여야 할 이유는 없다는 점을 논증한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Priest attempts to solve the liar paradox by arguing that the liar sentence is a dialetheia. That is, his para-consistent system claims that the liar sentence is a counter-example of the Law of Non-contradiction. However, this solution has some problems. In this system, the claim that the liar sentence is a dialetheia is also a dialetheia. This means that the system contains some inconsistency and that it is difficult to express asserting/denying some claims. It may be answered that a way to avoid these problems lies in modifying this system to be able to express ‘being false only’. To express such a phrase, an alternative negation should be introduced to this system. But the system modified in this way produces the revenge problem. Therefore, it is argued that Priest’s suggestion to solve the liar paradox is not successful and we do not need to regard the liar sentence as a counter-example of the LNC.
