텔레비전 다큐멘터리에 재현된 다문화 담론에 대한 분석 : KBS <인간극장>과 <다큐멘터리 3일>을 중심으로

A Study on Discourse of Multi-culture Represented in TV Documentary

The purpose of the study is to analyze the discourse of multi-culture represented in TV documentary. The study analyzes TV documentary texts with the method of semiotic approach. The semiotic analysis of texts is based on the signification model of Barthes. The texts are selected from KBS documentary programs such as <Screening Humanity> and <Documentary Three Days>. They are concerned with multi-culture. The study analyzes 1) how ‘multi-culture’ in TV documentary text is represented and 2) how the discourse of multi-culture in the text is represented.

The study finds that the multi-culture in TV documentary texts is signified through privatization, localization, the emphasis of non-dailiness, assimilationism, patriarchal ideology, and genderization. The discourse of multi-culture represented in texts is de-contextualized. It is producted and re-producted in the direction of omitting problematics of migrant workers in texts. Multi-cultural phenomena have happened in the context of globalization of capitalism. The discourse of multi-culture, however, is filled with a variety of discourses which practice as signifiers diminishing and omitting the representation of diaspora communities and migrant workers. As a result, it gets re-mythed in the direction of reinforcing neoliberalism. The study analyzes signification of the discourse with a second-order semiology system of Barthes.

Now Korean society changes into the multi-cultural society. This is related with the numerical increase of multi-cultural families as well as migrant workers in Korea. The enlargement of neoliberalism and the change of the labor market have been leading to multi-cultural phenomena. Despite the fact, media tend to represent multi-cultural phenomena to be problematics of multi-cultural families.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 텔레비전 다큐멘터리에 재현되고 있는 다문화 담론을 살펴보고자, 바르트의 의미화 과정 모델을 중심으로 텔레비전 다큐멘터리 텍스트에 대한 기호학적 분석을 시도하였다. 분석대상은 2007년 말부터 2010년에 방영된 KBS의 다큐멘터리 <인간극장>과 <다큐멘터리 3일>에서 다문화와 관련된 프로그램을 선정하였다. 연구대상으로 선정된 텔레비전 다큐멘터리 텍스트에서 다문화는 어떻게 재현되고 있으며, 그리고 다큐멘터리에서 발견된 다문화 담론은 어떻게 재현되고 있는지 살펴보았다.
분석 결과 텔레비전 다큐멘터리에 재현된 다문화는 사사화, 지역화, 비일상성의 강조, 동화주의, 가부장주의, 젠더화로 기호화되어 있음을 발견하였다. 그리고 다큐멘터리 텍스트에서 재현되고 있는 다문화 담론은 탈맥락화되어 있는 재현 양태를 보이고 있으며, 자본주의의 전 지구화 과정에서 발생하는 노동의 문제를 재현의 대상에서 생략하는 방향으로 생산 · 재생산되고 있다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 다문화 담론을 채우고 있는 여러 담론들은 이산공동체와 이주노동자에 대한 재현을 축소하고 생략하는 기표로서 작용하고 있으며, 이는 신자유주의 이데올로기를 강화하는 방향으로 2단계 의미화 과정을 거치며 재신화화되고 있다.
한국에서 다문화 논의가 활성화되고 있는 지점은 국내 거주 이주노동자들의 수적 증가와 관련이 있다. 신자유주의의 확대와 한국 노동시장의 변화로 인해 다문화 현상이 촉발되고 있음에도, 다문화에 대한 논의는 다문화 가정에 대한 논의로 축소되고 있다는 문제를 지적할 수 있었다.
