As economic growth and advancements in science and technology diversify consumer needs and emphasize individuality, businesses are moving beyond traditional marketing approaches to provide consumers with various experiences. They operate flagship stores that highlight the brand’s identity and individuality. In particular, recently recognized tea brands are actively adopting a flagship store strategy, prioritizing experiences in offline spaces to align with these trends.
In this study, three flagship stores of domestic tea brands located in the Seoul metropolitan area were visited and analyzed based on the “Five Strategic Experience Module” by Bernd Schmitt and the “Experience Provider” to implement the module. Through this analysis, the characteristics of each store were identified, and the strengths and weaknesses of strategic experience modules for domestic tea flagship stores were derived.
Based on the analysis results, methods for experiential marketing strategies needed for the launch and operation of tea flagship stores were proposed and presented as guidelines. The guidelines include the following:
First, a proposal was made to provide consumers with emotional experiences by emphasizing natural elements through the development of commercial areas that offer relaxation and a sense of stability. Second, it was suggested to design distinctive external and internal spaces reflecting nature-friendly elements and the brand’s values to emphasize sensory, emotional, and relational experiences. Third, the recommendation was to emphasize the brand’s expertise through specialized products unique to flagship stores, forming brand recognition as a differentiated space. Fourth, a proposal was made for a digital enhancement strategy using various electronic media such as applications and membership programs to strengthen interaction between the brand’s flagship space and consumers. Last, it was emphasized that consumer communication should be strengthened. Offline, communication revolves around emotional and relational experiences, facilitated by tools like informational cards and tea classes. Online, the focus is on intensifying interaction with a diverse consumer base through the utilization of SNS channels.
Hopefully, based on the proposed guidelines and the strengths and weaknesses of the Strategic Experience Module, the findings will serve as valuable insights for the future development of experiential marketing strategies for tea brands’ flagship stores.
