From “Disconnected” to “Centered” The Implication of Centering Prayer for the Korean Young Adults = 단절로부터 중심에로 : 한국 청년을 위한 향심 기도의 의의

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 기독교 영성 훈련인 향심 기도가 어떻게 한국 청년 세대의 영적 변화와 성장에 건설적 역할과 기여할 수 있는지를 보여준 기독교 영성학적 탐구이다. 삶의 여러 영역에서의 “분리와 단절”을 경험하고 있는 청년 세대의 종교사회학적 특징을 살펴보고, 무념적 영성 전통(Apophatic Spirituality)인 향심 기도(Centering Prayer)의 수련을 통해, 그리스도 중심의 궁극적 변화가 실존과 영적 세계 가운데 경험될 수 있다는 가능성을 구체적인 사례 연구와 더불어 제시하고 있다. 중세 영국의 기독교 신비가인 “무지의 구름”의 기도 방법이 인도하는 존재론적 경험과 신적 인식은 한국 청년들이 가진 기독교에 관한 인식론적 지식의 한계를 극복하고, 새로운 영적 통찰을 제공하고 있다. 나아가, 향심 기도의 수련 방법이 어떻게 심리학적으로 변화와 성숙으로 이끄는지를 세 단계의 개념적 정리를 통해 증명하고 있다. 첫째, 자아와 하나님과의 접촉을 존재론적으로 유도하고, 둘째, 무의식가운데 잠재되어 있는 상처로부터 치유와 회복을 경험하게 되어, 마지막으로는 하나님과의 연합을 자아 정체성 안에서 경험적으로 고백하고, 하나님의 임재와 영적 동행을 삶의 모든 현장에서 구체화하는 과정을 거친다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 삶의 모든 영역 속에서 단절과 분리에(Disconnected) 있던 청년 세대가 그리스도와의 교제와 관계에 중심을 둔(Centered) 삶으로 변화되고, 회복되는 영성 형성 과정과 그 수련 방법을 구체적 예를 통해 증명하고 있다.
