      OK-432, a penicillin-killed and lyophilized preparation of a low-virulence strain of Streptococcus pyogenes, stimulated dendritic cells can produce interleukin(IL)-12 and interferon(IFN)-ϓ, which are potent cytokines that mediate T-helper 1(Th1) cell development. Japan and Korea have been successfully used as the pleurodesis agent in malignant effusion and immunotheraputic agent of Biologic Response Modifiers in cancer. It is considered that this strategy is useful for clinical applications as a cancer vaccine therapy for patients with CEA-expressing gastrointestinal tumors. Intratumoral injection of OK-432 produced significant antitumor effects. There are reports that OK-432 was injected directly into tumor tissue on gastrointestinal tracts and HCC tissue, producing decrease in serum alpha-fetoprotein level. It is the report for two patients whose advanced metastatic lung cancers from osteosarcoma and invasive thymoma are inoperable. We have treated surgically t재 cases by injecting intratumor to decrease the size of tumor.
