The sensorimotor skills of infants start to grow in their first 6 to 12 months after birth. So sensorimotor-centered infant education programs should be prepared to facilitate their development of motor skills. The purpose of this study was to develop a sensorimotor-centered infant education program to expedite the development of the motor skills of 6 to 12 months old, as they usually made a rapid progress in motor skills. And it's also intended to apply it in a daycare center to identify its effect on the motor skills who were 6 to 12 months old.
To identify the effect of the program on their motor skills development, both groups took tests in motor skills before and after the experiment, and their caregivers were interviewed three times to see if there were any changes in their views. For data handling, Mann-Whitney U-Test was used, which was a nonparametric test to be suitable for a small number of subjects.
The results were as follows: First, the experimental group that was exposed to the sensorimotor-centered infant education program showed a significantly better improvement in post-motor skills, including gross and fine motor skills, than the control group that wasn't. Therefore the sensorimotor-centered infant education program could be said to have a positive impact on the development of their motor skills.
Second, the caregivers expressed satisfaction when they received theoretical and practical education about the development of motor skills and they got confident of infant education. And there was a favorable change in their ways of interacting with infants in the course of acquiring how to respond to them.
