The design consulting for new product development includes many processes such as the analysis of market and consumer, corporate competence and resource, and also includes the establishment of the strategies and development of the unique concepts of new product, which should be performed before actual design development. Therefore, design consulting for new product development should be performed on the basis of the design capability and insight through interdisciplinary approaches to the related studies especially Marketing, Management, Engineering, Human/Social Science.
This study aims to suggest an interdisciplinary fundamental theory and practical framework for the strategic design consulting to actualize successful development of new product. The framework of the design consulting which is suggested in the study is built with strategic process and interdisciplinary methodology to integrate design into the whole process of new product development which should be managed in the sense of a corporate strategy.
