결혼이주여성의 한국 사회 통합- 정책과 경험 사이에서 = Social Integration of Marriage Migrant Women in Korea : Between Policies and Experiences

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper tries to show the importance of active self-expression using non-linguistic medium in multicultural education for marriage migrant women through introducing the video workshops and the playback theater which is based on body gestures. “The Social Integration Program” pursued by the Ministry of Justice emphasizes educational programs in Korean language and Korean cultural experience. However language isn’t merely a means of communication but also a means of self-expression. In this sense, language cannot be limited to text. From this perspective, the video workshop and the playback theater provide an alternative form of education that overcomes the limitations of a text-based education.
The problems that marriage migrant women experience as they take on the triple burden of wife, daughter-in-law, and mother become conveyed to other Koreans, not through their own narrations, but through the interpretations, reports, and judgements of external observers - including experts, activists, and policy makers who approach their problems as a “social issue” requiring a policy solution. From this perspective, the education using non-linguistic medium is very important for encouraging migrant women to become subjects of their experiences of laying down roots in foreign sociocultural environment from being objects of education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 결혼이주여성들의 통합을 언어와 소통, 경험이라는 관점에서 살핀다. 진정한 의미의 통합은 유입국의 단일 문화에 다양한 이주민 문화를 편입시키는 것이 아니라 선주민 문화와 이주민 문화 간의 상호 침투와 조율을 통해 가능해진다. 이러한 관점 하에 본 연구는 정부가 추진하는 사회통합 프로그램, 특히 한국어 교육이 실시되는 문화적․사회적 환경을 비판적으로 검토한다. 그리고 비디오 워크숍이나 신체극 등 비활자적 매체를 활용한 다문화 교육을 결혼이주여성들의 역량 강화를 위한 주요 문화 전략의 하나로 제안하며, 이들의 경험을 일종의 ‘이야기’ 형태로 들려준다. 일반적으로 주류 매체가 들려주는 결혼이주여성들의 삶은 주류 사회의 시선에 의해 선택적으로 구성된 것으로서 집단적 성격을 띤다. 분석적 언어로 수행된 연구 또한 이들의 경험을 하나의 일관된 서사로 봉합시키는 경향이 있다. 이에 반해 본 연구가 시도하는 이야기는 이주여성들의 개별적인 경험을 존중하면서 그 경험이 안고 있는 모순된 국면까지 드러냄으로써 이들의 한국 사회 통합이 주류 문화로의 ‘포섭’이 아닌 주류 문화와의 상호 소통이 되는데 기여하고자 한다.
