The ultimate goal of music education is developing human's musical aesthetic senibility to its utmost so that each individual may accomplish self-realization through music. However, General music education cannot catch up with today's various and sensible trend of music. Today's children are already infatuated in the rapid and sensitive music. Since children's interest in the textbook music is gradually decreasing. We, music educators must not just neglect the learner's interests and desires.
The discretion activity stated in The Seventh Education Curriculum presents only the basic guides of organizing and managing the discretion activity and does not exhibit the actual education curriculum. Therefore, the frontline schools are facing various difficulties in selecting, teaching and producing the education materials.
In order to solve such current problems, this study suggests a creative discretion activity program. The purposes of this program are diversifying and normalizing the creative discretion activity, and helping children have more aesthetic music experience through various activities that reflect their interests and desires.
To achieve such purposes, first, an actual condition analyzation on the management condition, the children's preference and the teacher's cognizance is done, and through application of its results, a 34-hour creative discretion activity program for one year period that allows one to experience various and interesting aesthetic music, is organized.
The following results may be achieved through the application of this study's discretion activity program.
First, it will be an aesthetic-experiencing opportunity for children to go through the discretion program associated with a diversity of musical extraclssroom activities given to them outside the school.
Second, through the various activities that are reflect children's preference, they may increase their interest in musical activities and discretion activities.
Third, without limits and restrictions to the textbook, children may experience diverse pan-curriculum activities.
Fourth, through group activities, children may foster abilities to interchange, understand and interpret other people.
Fifth, through musical experiences in various genres, children may understand the characteristics and the values of musical culture.
Sixth, through various expressive activities, a child may nurture presentation abilities.
Seventh, various musical activities will assist in the development of cooperative consciousness, the increase in sociality, the identity and self-confidence of traditional music.
At schools where the discretion activities were not effectively carried out due to various reasons as lack of time and material for development of such discretion activity programs, I hope that the creative discretion activity presented by this study will help the children to have an aesthetic musical experience. Moreover, I look forward for more diverse research and development for discretion activities in which children can voluntarily draw out their thoughts and ideas that will be developed in the future.
