중세 문장과 현대 심벌마크의 비교 = Comparison Research of Medieval Heraldry and Today Symbol Mark

국문 초록 (Abstract)

조직이나 단체, 기업은 각각의 정체성을 표현하기 위해서 심벌마크를 만들고 사용하고 있다. 현대 심벌마크는 구조나 형태, 상징에 따라 복잡하고 다양하게 존재한다. 그 중에서 유럽과 미국의 많은 기업과 기관의 심벌마크는 방패형태의 심벌마크를 가지고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 국내의 많은 대학들까지도 방패형태의 마크를 심벌마크로 사용하고 있다. 이것의 근원은 과거 유럽 중세시대의 문장으로 문장은 기사가 적군과 아군을 구별하기 위해 방패에 문양을 넣은 것이 시초가 되어 발전하였다. 문장은 주로 소속과 신분을 나타내는 수단으로 사용되었고 나라에서 위임받은 문장관에 의해 문장은 구조와 표현방법에 일정한 규칙을 갖게 되었다. 과거 중세 문장이 현대의 많은 기업과 기관에서 심벌마크로 사용하고 있는 것으로 볼 때 문장은 현대 심벌마크에 많은 영향을 미친 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 유럽 중세 문장의 역사와 발전과정을 통해 문장의 기능과 형태를 통시적 관점으로 고찰하였다. 그리고 중세 문장과 현대 심벌마크의 구체적인 사례를 통해 비교하였다. 비교 결과 문장과 현대 심벌마크는 모두 기능적인 측면, 형태적인 측면, 상징적인 측면에 특징을 갖고 있었다. 기능적인 측면으로는 소유의 기능, 소속 및 신분의 기능, 출처의 기능이 있으며 형태적인 측면은 디자인 방식과 제도가 있다. 상징적인 측면으로는 상징의 표현요소와 상징성이 있다. 이러한 특징에서 문장과 현대 심벌마크는 상당한 공통점과 차이를 가지고 있으며 형태적인 측면과 상징요소는 매우 차이가 크지만 디자인 규정에서는 현대 심벌마크가 중세문장에서 활용할 만한 요소가 많이 있음을 알 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Organizations, groups and enterprises produce and make use of symbol marks to express their identity. Modern symbol marks have complexity and variety depending upon structure, forms and symbols. So many enterprises and organizations in Europe and the United States have symbol marks of shield. And, plenty of colleges in the nation also make use of symbol mark of shield. The symbol mark of shield was originated from the one in the Middle ages to put a pattern on the shield and to distinguish our forces from the enemy. The heraldry was used to identify status and belonging, and the heraldry that was authorized to make use from the Government had specific rule of structure and expression methods. The heraldry in the Middle Ages is being used at so many enterprises and organizations in modern days, so that it is thought to have great influence upon modern symbol marks. Therefore, this study examined functions and forms of the mark at history and development process of the heraldry in the Middle Ages from point of view of time. And, the study investigated cases of the heraldry in the Middle Ages and modern symbol marks. The findings were as follow: The heraldry and modern symbol marks have functional, form and symbolic characteristics. And they have functions of ownership, belonging and personal status, and source, and they have design styles and symbol from point of view of symbol. They have symbolic expression factors and symbol from point of view of symbol. Therefore, the heraldry and modern symbol marks have considerable common feature and difference. And, both form and symbolic factor have great difference. Modern symbol mark have plenty of factors that can be used from the heraldry in the Middle Ages according to design regulations.
