      In this paper, I tried to understand the fiction “On trust” authored by Kim Nam-cheon while actively taking into consideration the ideological context in Late Colonial Era and the structure of the work.
      In “On trust”, Kim Nam-cheon suggested the issue of morality by putting emphasis on the moral value of the trust but downgrading the absolute authority of filial piety(fidelity). In the colonial period, the value of filial piety(fidelity) was the virtue which was required to construct the non-personal duty-relationship based on the heteronomy and was educated as a valuable topic in the classroom in the colonial period. On the other hand, the trust was the virtue which was needed to construct the personal trust-relationship based on the autonomy of the people and which could be justified by the person’s internal conviction. So, the emphasis on the moral value of the trust was not only the downgrading of the absolute authority of filial piety(fidelity) but also the objection to the effort of making the Japanese Emperor centered order.
      Although Kim Nam-cheon gave a thought about the morality in late colonial period focusing on the issue of trust, he did not suggest the trust as an alternative to the filial piety(fidelity) but just eroded it. In Late Colonial Era, the value of trust was used as an ideology to persuade Korean people to join the Japanese Army in winning “New Order” construction war (the Pacific War), it cannot be accept as it was at that time. Notwithstanding, as Kim Nam-cheon put emphasis on the moral value of the trust, he can focus on its aspect of the autonomy of the people and expose the fact that “New order” was not based on the people’s autonomy. In addition, he showed the necessity of the effort to search “another morality” which could overcome both the trust and the filial piety(fidelity).

      In “On trust”, Kim Nam-cheon suggested the issue of morality by putting emphasis on the moral value of the trust but downgrading the absolute authority of filial piety(fidelity).
