학문으로서 한국학의 개념과 방법론 및 지표 = The conception of Koreanology as a science, and its methodology and the direction

국문 초록 (Abstract)

학문은 진리발견으로서의 어떤 대상에 대한 관조적 성찰, 객관적 서술, 분석, 설명으로 나타나는 지적 활동이자 산물이며, 평가적, 이념적, 실천적 영역과는 직접적으로 아무 상관도 없다. 학문은 가치평가도 아니며, 정치적, 도덕적, 기술적 행위와 학연하게 구별된다. 한국학은 물리학, 분자학, 철학 등과 같은 '영역적'이 아니라 '지역적 분류개념이며, 그 대상은 한국과 관련된 모든 현상, 사건, 사상, 존재들을 인식대상으로 삼는 학문이다.
방법은 학문의 목적, 즉 진리발견에 도달하기 위한 가장 효율적 절차이다. 이런 뜻으로서의 방법은 분야마다, 사람마다 그리고 상황마다 천차만별일 수밖에 없다. 그러나 학문의 방법론이라 말할 때 그것은 모든 경우에 한결같이 적용될 수 있는 보편성과 학문의 주장을 객관적으로 타당하게 만드는 준거의 명증확실성을 보장할 수 있는 방법을 의미한다.
학문 일반 및 한국학의 개념을 위와 같이 규정할 때 한국학이 지향할 목표는 자명하다. '수월성'(excellence)이 곧 그것이다. 이 수월성은 한 연구가 보여주는 주장의 사실적 근거의 치밀성과 정확하며 또한 논리적 짜임새의 정교성의 정도, 그리고 그러한 주장의 창조적 신선미, 사회적, 문화적 비중 여하에 달려 있다. 그것은 한국적인 것을 국위 선양하는 차원에서 본 정치적, 사상적, 경제적 중요성은 물론 그 자체의 가치의 유무, 크고/작음과는 직접적으로 즉 학문적으로 아무 연관이 없다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The scholastic pursuit is a mental activity and its intellectual product which is shown through the contemplative introspection, the objective description, the analysis, and the explanation of a certain subject. And it definitely has no direct connection with the evaluative, ideological, or practical province. So, it is not an estimation, and further more, it certainly distinguishes itself from a political, moralistic, or technical actions. Therefore, koreanology is not something of 'a realm', but is more like of 'a regional classification concept' such as physics, molecularity, and philosophy. And it is a scholastic pursuit aimed at every phenomena, events, ideologies, and existences which is related to korea as an object of recognition.
Method is the purpose of the scholastic pursuit. In other words, it is the most efficient process to reach discovering the truth. So the method of this kind have to be multifarious in every field, every man, and every situation. But when we talk about an academic way of methodology, we usually think of a method that can ensure the universality which can be applied on all occasions constantly and the reliability to a clear evidence of conformity which makes the academic assertion properly in an objective way.
When we prescribe the notion of general academic field and Koreanology, it is axiomatic that the purpose which Koreanology should move toward must be 'the excellence'. This excellence depends on how a research can show the assertion more closely and accurately in the realistic basis, and how much they can make the logical structure elaborately. And further more, it also depends on whether this assertion is freshly creative, and takes more importance in a social and cultural way or not. That is to say, the excellence has no academical relationships with the political, ideological, economical importances and with the existence and nonexistence of value of itself or its dimensions.
