The writer investigated the research trends on Japanese Confucian scholars and Kokugaku ones by analyzing the papers published in Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan during the year 2006. Mainly focused on the articles in the scholarly journals and the academic dissertations for degrees, there were 18 articles on the Japanese Confucian School, 25 ones on Yangming School, 26 ones on Kohaku School or Mitogaku School and 37 ones on Kokugaku School. Totally 106 articles were published in 2006 throughout the East Asian area. Comparing to 2005, on the whole about 25 articles have increased. Expecially in year 2006, the papers about researching the Kokugaku Scholars sharply increased in number. On the contrary, interestingly the researches on Japanese Confucianism decreased five articles compared with one year ago. Confucianism pursues the more universal truths than Japanese Kokugaku thought. And then it can be said that the researchers on the Japanese thoughts seem to be rather interested in the identity of Japanese culture than the solidarity or the ideal homogeneity among East Asian countries in which the confucianism had been popular in the conventional era.
