This paper suggests theoretical linkage between information technology(IT) and organization performance. Reviewing the IT and organizational performance related paradigms-technological determinism vs social constructivism and traditional strategy analysis vs resource based theory, this paper proposes a integrative framework that relates ITs, organizational culture, and performance. The model shows that ITs alone does not produce sustainable performance advantages in general, but that could gain advantages by using ITs to leverage intangible, complementary cultural resources including spiritual, behavioral, interorganizational, and ITs supporting infrastructure aspects. This paper is expected to help explaining why some organizations outperform others using the same, ITs, and why successful IT users often fail to sustain IT-based competitive advantage.
