베트남의 아시아 연구 현황 및 동향 : 베트남국립대학교 하노이인문사회과학대학의 사례 = Current Status and Trends of Asian Studies in Vietnam : The Case of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – Hanoi

국문 초록 (Abstract)

베트남에서 지역학과 아시아 연구는 그 다학제적 특성으로 인해 오랫동안 명확한 학문적 위치를 규정하기 어려운 분야로 간주되어 왔다. 이러한 이유로 지역학은 비교적 최근에야 제도화된 학문 분야로 인정받기 시작하였다. 그러나 20세기 후반부터 베트남과 아시아 국가들 간의 경제, 정치, 문화 교류가 활발해짐에 따라, 아시아 연구에 대한 관심은 점차 증가하고 있다. 특히 1980년대 후반 베트남 정부가 추진한 도이머이(Đổi Mới) 정책, 즉 개방과 경제 개혁 정책 이후 아시아에 대한 연구 필요성은 그 어느 때보다도 부각되었다.
이와 함께 베트남의 여러 대학과 연구기관들은 아시아 연구를 위한 학과와 센터를 설립해 왔다. 대표적으로 동방학과, 국제관계학과, 동북아연구소, 동남아연구소, 중국연구소 등이 있으며, 이는 아시아 국가들과의 지식 교류와 협력의 기반을 마련하기 위한 노력이었다. 이러한 학문적 기반 확대와 더불어, 아시아 연구는 점차 다양한 주제와 접근 방식을 포괄하는 분야로 발전하고 있다.
본 연구는 베트남 내 아시아 연구의 실태를 파악하고자 하는 목적에서 수행되었으며, 주요 지역학 학술지에 게재된 아시아 관련 논문들을 통계적으로 분석한다. 특히 최근 10년간 아시아 연구를 선도해 온 베트남국립대학교 하노이 인문사회과학대학의 연구 성과를 중심으로 심층적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 베트남의 아시아 연구가 지닌 주요 특징과 현재의 연구 동향을 보다 명확히 규명하고자 한다.

In Vietnam, Asian studies have long faced challenges in academic positioning due to their interdisciplinary nature, and only recently have they begun to be recognized as an independent academic field. Since the latter half of the 20th century, increasing economic, political, and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and other Asian countries — especially following the Đổi Mới economic reform in the late 1980s — have driven a growing interest in this area. In response, many Vietnamese universities and research institutions have established departments and centers such as Oriental Studies, International Relations, and regional studies institutes focusing on Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and China... These efforts aim to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation with Asian countries.
This study examines the current landscape of Asian studies in Vietnam through a statistical analysis of Asia-related articles published in major academic journals in the field. Special attention is given to research outputs from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, which has played a leading role in the country’s Asian studies over the past decade. By analyzing these research trends and themes, the study seeks to clarify the defining characteristics and recent developments of Asian studies in Vietnam, shedding light on its evolving academic trajectory and future directions.
