폴란드 그림책 작가 이보나 흐미엘레프스카 Iwona Chmielewska의 포스트모던적 작품세계 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

어린이책의 노벨상이라고 일컬어지는 볼로냐 라가치 대상 (Bologna Ragazzi Award)을 두 번이나 수상한 바 있는 이보나 흐미엘레프스카 (Iwona Chmielewska, 1960-)는 폴란드에서 태어난 그림책 작가로, 한국에서 20여권이 넘는 그림책을 출간하며 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 이 연구는 실험성과 독창성으로 세계적인 작가로 부상하고 있는 한국제 (made in Korea) 폴란드 작가인 이보나 흐미엘레프스카의 작품세계의 포스트모더니즘 성향을 분석하고, 포스트모더니즘이라는 시대사조 속에서 한국의 그림책 성장과 변화의 모습을 담으려는 시도로, 이보나 흐미엘레프스카의 작품에서의 실험성과 독창성, 독자의 참여를 요구하는 내러티브, 글과 그림이 가지고 있는 다중 의미의 적용 등을 추적하여, 이 작가가 가지고 있는 포스트모던 적 성향을 추적하였다.현대 어린이책의 중요한 경향으로 떠오르는 포스트모더니즘의 특징 중, 흐미엘레프스카의 작품들은 그림과 글 텍스트의 상호 대립적 관계과 경쟁적인 담론, 독자 참여와 유희성, 다층적 읽기와 의미 적용의 가능성, 상호 텍스트성과 패러디성, 텍스트와 일러스트레이션, 플롯과 인물, 배경의 미결정성 이라는 확연한 특징들을 모두 보여주고 있다.
또한 이보나 흐미엘레프스카는 그림책이 나타내는 사회적 메시지를 중요하게 생각하는 작가로, 포스트모더니즘 이론을 보충하기 위해 쓰이고 있는 급진적 변화이론에서의 변화적 경계라는 측면에서도 작가의 작품은 이전까지 다뤄지지 않았던 주제나 간과했던 배경들을 드러낸다.
문학적 실험에만 그치지 않고, 대중들의 많은 사랑을 받는 작가로서 흐미엘레프스카 작품은, 한국 어린이책 출판에서 어른 뿐 아니라 어린이들도 이해할 수 있는 대중적인 포스트모더니즘 작품의 발현으로 이해해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Iwona Chmieleewska is a Polish picturebook author, who won Bologna Ragazzi award (so called the Nobel Prize for Children's picture book) twice with books published originally in Korea. Publishing more than 20 picturebooks in 10 years in Korea, Iwona Chmielewska is now a well knwon figure in Childnren's picturebook world, with her unique philosophical, experimental picturebooks. This study is about postmodernistic characteristics in Iwona Chmielewska's picturebooks, assuming this as the specificity of this creator's picturebooks.
Postmodern characteristics are indeed one of the main issues of contemporary picturebooks, 1980's onward. Of those characteristics, the compatibility between text and the picture, competitive discourse between text and picture, intertextuality and parody, playfulness, multi layered meaning and many possibilities of interpretation, the pendency of text and illustration - suggested as main qualities of postmodern picturebooks by Sipe and Pantaleo - are all clearly shown in Iwona Chmielewska's picturebooks.
Of radical change theory - Iwona Chmielewska is a very socially concerend author, whose text and illustration often include thematic taboos and social messages.
