반전과 통찰 -김유정 도시 배경 소설의 비의 = Peripeteia and Insight -The Significance of Kim Yu Jung`s short stories

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to investigate the peculiarities of Kim Yu Jung`s short stories with an urban setting. In these short stories, the world where incidents develop is a mere background in the literal sense of the word and the figuration is focused on the general circumstances of life in a modern city. The characters are mainly people of lower classes and the protagonist is commonly the weak in relationships. These short stories are relatively a little short and the plot is so simple that only two or three story-lines are connected linearly. But the effects are not uncomplicated. The transition of story-lines goes against readers` expectation and the narration is focused on the major character`s mentality which transfers a failure in real life to a success in psychology, and consequently, the major effect of these short stories becomes peripeteia. The peculiarities of Kim Yu Jung`s short stories with an urban setting are to be summarized as follows. One is the interest of peripeteia and the other is the significance of the insight to grasp the vitality of the lower class in modern Korean literary history.
