One of the features of Gi-ho Confucianism lies in its openness, the trait whose origin can be traced to Korean tradition itself. Neo-confucian theorists, when they explained the hidden mechanism of the phenomenal world, emphasized on Li as their key concept on some occasion and on Chi on other; and accordingly their theories took different shapes on the whole. But Gi-ho Confucianist, while not ignoring the importance of Li, generally stressed the significance of Chi. They, considering that Li and Chi cannot be separated and at the same time that they cannot be one, tried to grasp Li-Chi myterious harmony as their central basis. They, not being lopsided to the ideal or to the real, tried to put together both ends of the pole. Thus one can find in them the roots of the study of Li, the seeds of Shil-hak, some features of Yang-ming, and further attempts to accommodate the heretic philosophy such as Taoism and Buddhism. Now we live in the age of conflict. Conflict of cultures, of thoughts, and of religions are making our age more unstable and unpredictable. I believe that Gi-ho confucianism, by its openness and comprehensiveness, offers a key to reduce and ultimately solve the conflicts
