The purpose of this study was to comprehensively examine the artwork experience of domestic art therapists and identify the meaning and core content. For this purpose, qualitative research on related topics published in South Korea until August 2023 was collected through academic database search, and 7 studies that fit the purpose of this study were selected and meta-summarized. The qualitative meta-summary research method used in the study is the research method studied by Sandelowski and Barroso, which quantifies the results of heterogeneous qualitative studies, presents the frequency effect size and intensity effect size as statistical results, and systematically synthesizes the results. In this study, 7 selected studies were analyzed and 230 statements were produced. The statements were calculated into 18 similar abbreviated statements, which were divided into four categories: art experience, professional development, healing experience and self-care, and self-understanding and insight. The intensity effect size of the 7 selected studies was presented in the results, and the frequency effect size and frequency effect size ranking of the 18 calculated abbreviated statements, the corresponding studies, and each abbreviated statement were presented in the results. The main meaning of artwork experience was identified as enabling art therapists to live fulfilling their own lives and discover their true existence. The core content was identified as the abbreviated statement with the largest frequency effect size: ‘I came to understand myself deep inside me through understanding the meaning of images from within.’ Based on these research results, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed.
