자아초월 심리학적 관점에서 본 유식5위 = Exploring the Spiritual Development Model of Mahayana Seon (Zen) Practice From the Perspective of Transpersonal Development and Healing

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explored and modified the Five Paths, a model in ancient Mahayana Buddhist practice for healing ignorance of the self and fostering enlightenment about the true nature of the self. Working from the perspectives of transpersonal development and healing, I modified the existing Buddhist spiritual developmental model in order to make it more accessible for contemporary individuals who wish to pursue such a spiritual path. In this context, making the model accessible involved updating the language and manner of practice.
Why choose the Five Paths? Authors familiar with transpersonal approaches—which bring psychology and spirituality together for the purpose of healing—have not yet studied and explicated these valuable practices. In a world of far too much separation, the Five Paths offers an essential and healing teaching that deconstructs the boundary between “I” as a subject and “others” as an object.
The purpose of the study is to offer a useful framework and practices for understanding spiritual growth and healing.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 자아에 대한 무지를 치유하고 진아(眞我)에 대한 깨달음을 촉진시키는 고대 대승불교 수행의 한 모델인 (유식)오위를 탐색하고 수정했다. 기존의 불교수행 모형을 초자아 발달과 그 치유적 관점에서 들여다 보고 연구함으로서 오늘 날 정신수행을 추구하는 현대인들이 보다 쉽게 접근하고 활용할 수 있도록 현대적 모형으로 변형시켰다. 그러한 목적에서 현대인들이 기존의 수행모델을 보다 쉽게 적용할 수 있도록 수행방식과 용어를 현대어로 전환하고자 시도했다.
그런데 연구모델로 유식오위를 선택한 이유는 무엇인가? 인간의 마음을 치료할 목적으로 심리학과 여러가지 종교적 정신수행을 함께 통합해 온 초자아 심리학 연구자들이 지금껏 유식오위에 대해 연구한 적이 없고 그 가치를 알지 못하기 때문이다. 또 다른 이유는 너무나 자기중심적이고 나와 너의 이원적 현실속에서 살고 있는 현대인들에게 유식오위수행은 주체로서의 “나”와 객체로서의 “타인”간의 벽을 허물고 제거할 수 있는 아주 본질적이고 치유적인 가르침을 제공하기 때문이다.
본 연구의 목적은 영적 성장과 치유를 이해하는데 유용한 틀과 수행법들을 제공하는데 있다.
