루마니아 속담에 나타난 동물의 상징과 민속학적 수용 = The Symbol of Animal and its Folkloric Acceptance in the Romanian Proverbs

국문 초록 (Abstract)

속담의 유형들 중 자연계의 관찰, 특히 동물들의 습속을 통해 얻어진 삶의 지혜를 인간사에 적용한 것이 동물속담이다. 동물들의 보편적 습속에 철학과 삶의 지혜를 적용한 동물속담은 명령조의 속담이나 경직된 격언에 비해 일반 대중의 인식과 적용에 있어 커다란 효율성을 제고해 주는데, 동물 자체가 갖는 고유한 친밀성을 기반으로 인간사의 선과 악, 긍정과 부정의 가치를 깨닫게 해주기 때문이다. 루마니아 속담에 소재로 등장하는 동물은 개, 양, 소, 말, 돼지 등과 같은 가축과 늑대와 곰으로 대표되어지는 들짐승으로 크게 양분된다. 이는 목축과 밭농사를 기반으로 한 루마니아인의 삶이 민속학 산물의 한 유형인 속담에 뿌리 깊은 영향을 미치고 있다는 것을 시사해주는 바이다. 속담에서 언급되는 대부분 동물은 그가 가진 속성과 이를 받아들이는 인간의 삶 속에서 다양한 가치를 형성해주며, 다양한 소재만큼 다양한 주제에 연계된다. 인간과 동물 또는 동물들 사이의 비교는 유사함이자 변별성인 닮은 차이를 배경으로 하는데, 인간과 동물 종 사이의 은유나 비유 같은 메타포의 기법이 속담의 미학적 가치를 부각시켜 준다. 동물을 매개로 한 예술적 외현과 지혜와 깨달음이라는 내현은 결국 일반화를 전제로 하는 것이다. 개인 또는 집단의 경험이 가소성을 거쳐 공동체의 주제로 부각되고, 이후 공동체의 소통과 관념을 통해 유머, 풍자, 교육 등과 같은 다양한 목적에 따라 보편성을 가지게 된다. 이를 위해 속담은 동종이나 이종의 병렬구조, 열등 유형의 판단을 통해 우등 유형의 가치를 제고하는 방법 그리고 귀납적인 추론과 의인화의 기술을 빌리기도 하며, 남성과 여성, 가축과 들짐승처럼 반의성을 기조로 받아들이기도 한다. 유형이나 표현에 있어 예술과 미학의 기교를 빌리지만, 동물속담은 동물이 가진 속성과 유기적 관계를 통해 선악의 판단에 대한 인간의 이해와 교훈을 얻는 것을 목적으로 한다. 궁극적으로 속담이 그 자체로서 선과 악, 긍정과 부정의 절대적 판단과 가치의 메시지를 전하고자 한다면, 소재로 등장하는 동물은 속담의 부가적 기능으로 속담의 논리적 구조에 부여된 의미를 상징화하고, 속담이 예술과 미학의 산출물이 될 수 있도록 보충적인 역할을 하는 것이다. 동물속담의 다양한 주제에 대한 보편적 합의는 하나의 개별 민족이 만들어 낸 일반화의 산출물이 될 수도 있겠지만, 특히, 유사한 문화나 언어권 등 인문 지리적 환경을 갖고 있는 제민족들에게서도 찾아 볼 수 있는 공통모이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The application of the wisdom of life through the observation of the natural world, in particular, of the folkway of animals in human affairs is knew as the proverbs of animals. The proverbs of animals which apply the wisdom of philosophy and human’s life in general folkway of animals are improving the efficiency for the recognition and application of the general public, compared to other stiff proverbs or maxims. The proverbs of animals easily underline the good and bad, positive and negative values of human affairs based on a unique intimacy with the animal itself. Animals that appear as a material in the Romanian proverbs are divided largely into ‘livestock’ like dog, sheep, cattle, horse, pig and ‘wild animals’ like wolf and bear. This would suggest that Romanian’s life, based on the livestock and field crops, has had a profound impact on the proverbs as one type of folklore product. Most animals mentioned in proverbs form a variety of values in human life which accepts the properties of animals and it is linked to a variety of topics as diverse materials. The comparison between the human and the animal or between animals has the background of resembling difference, and the technique of metaphor between the human and the animal helps to emphasize the aesthetic value of the proverb. The artistic overtness and the covertness of wisdom and enlightenment through animals are eventually realized through the generalization and the formation of sympathy. The proverbs of animals emerge as a topic of community through personal or collective experience, and since then, through communication with the notion of community have a universality for different purposes, such as education, humor, satire etc. For their efficiency, the proverbs borrow in many cases the homologous or heterologous parallel structures, the way to increase the value of superior type by comparing the inferior type, the technology of personification and inductive reasoning, and so on. On the other hand, it shows sometimes the efficient conflict with each other, like male and female, livestock and wild animals. Using an expression of art and aesthetic finesse for the form and expression, the proverbs of animals should aim to give a lesson and underline the human understanding about the judgment of good and bad values through the properties of animals and their organic relationship with the humans. Eventually, if the proverb itself delivers the message of absolute judgment about the good and bad, positive and negative value, the animals as a material, being an additional function of the proverb, symbolize the meaning given to logical structure of the proverb, and take a supplemental role to make the proverb into the product of art and aesthetics. The universal consensus on various topics of animal proverbs may be a result of the generalization created by individual nations, but this is actually the common denominator found in many nations that have a similar anthropogeographical environment like culture or language.
