불가리아 북한 유학생의 인생 여정 -이상종 씨를 중심으로-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ever since the Korean War was over, the North Korean government sent a large number of students to study in communist countries in Europe. Bulgaria was one of those countries which has a strong relationship with North Korea, based on the communist brotherhood. North Korea selected only those who were to be loyal to the communist ideology and regime. But there were 4 North Korean students in Sofia who refused to go back to their homeland and sought political asylum in Bulgaria, condemning the then North Korean leader Kim Il-sung and his dictatorship. This paper is the life story of the fugitive, Mr. Yi Sang-jong, who, fortunately, was allowed by the then Bulgarian and the Soviet Union`s governments and communist parties to live in Bulgaria as a person with no nationality. This research deals with his arrival in Sofia, his life as a student and his fugitive process, and his life as a refugee in Bulgaria. And an interview with Mr. Yi Sang-jong is included in the paper.
