여성 결혼이민자를 위한 한국어 관용표현 교육 방안 = Suggestions for Teaching Korean Idiomatic Expressions for Female Married Immigrants

국문 초록 (Abstract)

관용표현은 한 나라의 전통적인 관습이나 생활 문화, 역사적인 유래와 관련을 맺고 형성되었기 때문에 그 나라의 문화와 관습을 잘 알지 못하는 사람은 그 의미를 쉽게 이해하기 어렵다. 내국인은 어려서부터 관용표현을 자연스럽게 습득하지만 외국인은 그렇지 못하므로 체계적인 학습이 필요함이 분명하다.
지금까지 관용표현에 관한 연구는 주로 관용어의 개념, 유형, 특성, 생성된 원인, 통사 및 의미 등이 주로 논의 되었으며, 최근 한국어 교육에서 유학생을 대상으로 학습자들의 요구를 반영한 관용표현 교육 논문들이 늘어나고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 이에 비해 여성 결혼이민자를 대상으로 한 관용표현 논문은 희소하여 이들을 대상으로 한 관용표현 연구가 필요함을 시사한다.
여성 결혼이민자가 한국 사회의 일원으로 정착하여 살아가려면 한국인이 자주 쓰는 관용표현도 능숙하게 사용할 수 있어야 한다. 그러나 한국어 교육 현장에서는 여성 결혼이민자에게 관용표현을 체계적으로 교육해야겠다는 인식 자체가 부족하다. 또, 여성 결혼이민자 대상의 교재 자체가 전문화되고 세분화되어있지 않기 때문에 대부분의 센터나 방문교육 시에 대학 출판 한국어 교재를 사용하는 곳이 많아서 적절성이 부족한 것이 현실이다.
이에 본 연구는 여성 결혼이민자를 위한 실생활 관용표현 목록을 선정하고 이들의 특수성을 고려한 관용표현 교육 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이와 같은 목적을 이루기 위하여 본 논문은 다음과 같은 목차에 따라 진행되었다.
Ⅰ장에서는 여성 결혼이민자 관련 연구와 한국어 관용표현 관련 연구들을 살펴 연구의 필요성과 목적을 밝히고 문제를 제기하였다.
Ⅱ장에서는 관용표현의 개념과 유형, 교육적 가치 그리고 여성 결혼이민자 대상의 한국어 관용표현 교육 현황을 살펴보았다.
Ⅲ장에서는 관용표현의 목록을 선정하기에 앞서 여성 결혼이민자 대상 요구 조사를 실시하였다. 그리고 이들을 대상으로 한 한국어 교재의 관용표현, 인기 드라마 대본의 관용표현, 한국어능력시험(TOPIK)의 관용표현, 초등학교 순위별 속담, 문금현(1999)의 한국인이 가장 많이 사용하는 관용표현을 기반으로 하여 관용표현의 목록을 추출하였다. 그리고 쉽고 재미있으면서 효과적인 관용표현 교육 방안을 제안하였다.
Ⅳ장에서는 지금까지의 논의를 요약 정리하는 것으로 마무리하였다.
본 연구는 여성 결혼이민자들이 일상생활 속에서 빈번하게 나타나는 관용표현을 제대로 파악하지 못해서 중급 이상의 학습자임에도 불구하고 원활한 의사소통이 잘 이루어지지 않고 있다는 점에 문제의식을 가지고 시작하였다. 그리고 여성 결혼이민자들의 특수성을 배제하고 범용적인 대학 교재로 여성 결혼이민자들을 교육하고 있는 것에 문제를 제기하게 되었다. 본 연구의 의의는 지금까지 시도되지 않았던 여성 결혼이민자를 대상으로 한 관용표현 목록을 선정하고 이들에게 적합한 맞춤형 교육 방안을 제시했다는 점이다.

Idiomatic expressions have been formed, related to traditional custom, living culture, or historical origins of a country. Thus, it is not easy to understand them for those who are unfamiliar with the country's culture and custom. Native speakers acquire idiomatic expressions naturally from childhood. However, foreigners don't. It is obvious that they need systematic learning.
So far they have largely discussed the concept, type, characteristic, origin, syntax and semantics of idioms in old studies of idiomatic expressions. And lately, in Korean language education, research papers on teaching idiomatic expressions have increased and reflected the needs of learners for overseas students. But, compared to this change, papers of idiomatic expressions for female married immigrants are scarce. It suggests more studies on idiomatic expressions for them is necessary.
A female married immigrant should master colloquial expressions and idioms frequently used by Koreans in order to settle down and live as a citizen in Korean society. Though, in the educational arena they have little understanding of teaching idiomatic expressions systematically to female married immigrants. Moreover, since the textbooks for female married immigrants are not specialized or departmentalized, in most language centers or home visiting lessons, many teachers use Korean textbooks published by universities. The reality is that those textbooks are not appropriate enough for the learners.
Therefore, this research aims to make a list of real life idiomatic expressions for female married immigrants and suggest some teaching methods of idioms considering the distinct characteristics of these learners. To accomplish these purposes, I made progress in this paper according to the following table of contents.
In Chapter I, I examined the studies of female married immigrants and those of Korean idiomatic expressions, then I illuminated the necessity and objective of this study and pointed out a problem.
In Chapter II, I studied the concept, type and educational value of idiomatic expressions and the reality of teaching Korean idiomatic expressions to female married immigrants.
In Chapter III, I conducted a survey of female married immigrants to find out their needs before I made a list of idiomatic expressions. And I listed the idiomatic expressions based on the following references : Idiomatic expressions in Korean textbooks designed for these learners, those from scripts of popular soap operas, those from TOPIK(Test of Proficiency in Korean), the graded list of proverbs for elementary school learners and The Idioms Most Frequently Used by Koreans written by Moon Geum-hyun(1999). And I suggested fun, easy and effective ways of teaching idioms.
In Chapter IV, I organized all the discussion above and wrote a brief summary.
In this study, I started with the question in that female married immigrants have difficulty in making a good communication although they are intermediate and above learners because they do not understand idiomatic expressions frequently used in everyday life clearly. I raised a question in teaching female married immigrants with universal college textbooks excluding their special characteristics. The significance of this research is that it selected and suggested the list of idiomatic expressions for female married immigrants that has not been tried before.
