다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

This paper aims to observe the guideline which the boundary between novel and essay draws. It is generally known that novel and essay belong to different genre, but there is no definite norm to classify it, because lots of essays similar to novels, to poems and plays are numerous. The most important asset of literature is, regardless of what a genre it belongs to, literary quality itself. However, it is necessary to examine the general characteristics of each genre, that is, what the writer of work have in the mind the forms he begins with. Readers are so accustomed to the difference of genre to understand literary works. Though the strict differentiation is impossible, it is necessary to draw guide line between two genres. Though the novelist who deelribes faithenlly his experiences relies on fictive elements adding details to the works. On the other hand the essayist enjoys relying on his own feelings and observations. If essayist reveals fictive elements in his works, he may lose his credit to readers. Therefore they have different reality pursuing aims. The novelists, moreover, have various narrators such as I, he, or characters` voice, whereas essayist uses in most cases writer`s own voice only. In prospect of future literature I expect essays conduct more important roles in literature because they are more open form than any other genre and give more familarity to the mass of people.
