비만아동의 심리사회적 문제에 대한 신체상의 매개효과 및 인구학적 변인의 중재효과 = The Mediating Effect of Body Image and The Moderating Effect of Demographic Data on Psychosocial Problems of Obese Children

The purpose of this study was to explore psychosocial factors related to body image of obese children. This study investigated the differences of body image and psychosocial variables between obese children and normal weight children, the mediating effect of body image for the psychosocial problems and the moderating variables of the relation between obesity and body image. The participants were 916 elementary school students. Body image, self-esteem, depression, peer-relations, teacher-relations, school adjustment, parent's child-rearing attitude scale were administered. The results were as follows; high-grade obese children showed lower score for social self-esteem and peer-relations than normal weight children, and the satisfaction of body image was a mediating variable in these relationships. Obese children with negative body image showed lower self-esteem, higher depression, and had more difficulty on peer-relation and school adjustment than obese children with positive body image. The child-rearing attitude of father was a moderator in the relationship between obesity and body image. Therefore, negative self-image and the child-rearing attitude served as a mediator or moderator. These results implicated the importance of counseling intervention on body image of obese children and the parent's child-rearing attitudes.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 비만 아동의 신체상과 관련된 심리사회적 요인의 관계를 밝히기 위하여, 비만과 정상체중 아동 간에 신체상 및 심리사회적 변인의 차이를 알아보고, 비만아동의 심리사회적 문제에 대한 신체상의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 아울러 비만과 신체상의 관계를 중재하는 인구학적 변인을 검토하였다. 연구 대상은 초등학교 3~6학년 학생 916명이며, 신체상 척도, 자기존중감 척도, 우울 척도, 친구관계 척도, 교사관계 척도, 학교적응 척도, 양육태도 척도로 구성된 질문지를 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 고학년 비만아동은 정상아동에 비해 사회적 자기존중감과 친구관계가 유의미하게 낮았으며, 신체상 만족수준은 이러한 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부정적 신체상을 지닌 비만아동은 긍정적 신체상을 지닌 비만아동에 비해 자존감이 낮고 우울이 높으며 친구관계 및 학교적응에 어려움을 나타냈다. 셋째, 비만아동과 신체상의 관계를 중재하는 요인은 부의 양육태도로 나타났다. 따라서 부정적인 신체상과 양육태도는 비만아동의 심리사회적 문제를 매개 및 중재하는 요인으로 검증되었으며, 이러한 결과는 비만아동의 신체상과 부모의 양육태도에 대한 상담개입의 중요성을 시사하고 있다.
