아버지의 수용과 자녀들의 문제행동 : 재정불안정의 매개효과를 중심으로 본 미국의 사례 = Paternal Incarceration and Children's Behavioral Problem : Focusing on the Mediate Effect of Financial Unstability in U.S.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to examine the consequences of paternal incarceration and thecauses of children's behavioral problems. This study also examined whether therewas a mediate effect of financial unstability between paternal incarceration andchildren's behavior problems. This study analyzed the data by multiple regressionand path analysis using 2,380 panel data from the Fragile Families and ChildWellbeing Study in U.S.
Main findings are as followed. First, paternal incarceration has an effect onfinancial unstability and children’s problematic behaviors. Second, children’sproblematic behaviors had multiple main causes. Third, family’s financial instabilityacted as a mediate effect between paternal incarceration and children’s problematicbehaviors. Finally, the paper suggests a plan of support for families of theincarcerated and their children by applying this study into the Korean society.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

수용자의 대부분은 미성년 자녀를 둔 아버지이다. 따라서 아버지의 교정시설 수용은 어린 자녀들의 양육환경에 손상을 입히고 자녀들에게 다양한 충격을 주게 된다. 본 연구는 자녀들의 문제행동에 대한 아버지의 수용이 미치는 영향력을 밝히는데 목적을 두고, 아버지가 교정시설에 수용되어 있는 자녀들의 문제행동을 재정불안정의 매개효과를 중심으로 살펴보았다.
연구를 위해 미국의 종단적 패널연구인 “취약가족과 아동복지연구”에서 수집된자료 중에서 세 번째 연구의 자료를 사용하였으며, 분석 대상은 2,380명 패널이다.
단계적 회귀분석과 경로모델 분석을 통해 자료를 분석하였다.
주요발견사항은 다음과 같다.첫째, 아버지의 수용은 자녀들의 어머니의 특성, 가정의 재정, 그리고 가족의 구조에 이르기까지 그 영향이 포괄적이었다.
둘째, 아동의 문제행동은 아버지의 수용을 포함하여 복합적인 요인들과 관련되어있는 것으로 나타났다.
셋째, 가정의 재정불안정은 아버지의 교정시설 수용에 따른 자녀의 문제행동을매개하는 효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 아버지의 수용은 자녀의 문제행동에 직접적인 영향력을 제공하면서 동시에 재정불안정이 매개하는 경로를 통해 그 위험성을 증가시키기도 하는 것으로 나타났다.
마지막으로 분석결과가 함의하는 바를 우리나라에 적용하여 수용자가족 및 자녀들에 대한 사회적 지원방안을 제안하였다.
