生成AIの翻訳からみる「日本語らしさ」に関する 一考察 ―主語の形態を中心に― = A Study on “Japaneseness” Observed in Machine-Generated Translations Focusing on the Morphology of Subjects

本研究は、英文の翻訳を通して、自然な日本語といえる表現上の特徴から「日本語らしさ」の一面を探り、さらに「日本語らしさ」というものが生成AIでも生成可能であるかを探求する研究である。中でも特に英語と日本語の構文上の違いとして取り上げられる主語の省略、また明示する際の形態に注目し、分析を行なった。 その結果、主語の省略においては日本語翻訳では主に省略が見られるものの、生成AIによる翻訳では英文と同じくそのまま明示する形で翻訳される傾向が多かった。主語が明示される場合はその形態に注目したが、その結果、英文では三人称代名詞で明示された主語が日本語翻訳では人物名などの固有名詞やア系指示詞を用いた代名詞で明示され、英語とは異なる形態で明示されていることが確認された。しかし、生成AIの場合、英語と同じく三人称代名詞を用いて明示され、日本語翻訳とは異なる形態がみられた。 これらの分析を通して、日本語は聞き手を意識した認知作用が働き、その結果、聞き手が推測可能な主語の場合は省略し、また主語を明示する際には聞き手も話し手と同じ事態把握ができるように仕掛けた主語の形態を明示するものだと考察された。またこのような聞き手を意識することが根底にある表現が「日本語らしさ」の一面として存在するものだと判断された。一方、生成AIによる翻訳には日本語のように聞き手を意識したことが反映される表現は見られず、「日本語らしさ」を駆使するには不足する点があると判断された。

This study one aspect of “Japaneseness” in language by examining stylistic features characteristic of natural Japanese through the of English texts. It further whether such “Japaneseness” can be by generative AI. The analysis focuses on omissiona well- syntactic difference between English and Japanese on the forms when subjects are explicitly expressed.
The results that subject omission frequently in human Japanese translations, generative AI translations tend to retain subjects in a manner the English . When subjects explicitly expressed in English, third-person pronouns human Japanese translationsrendered proper nouns such as personal names or pronouns a-series demonstratives. generative AI translations third-person pronouns English forms that from Japanese .
these , the study concludes that Japanese cognitive processes oriented toward the listener. , subjects that the listener omitted, and when subjects are explicitly , their forms are to the listener to the situation in the same way as the speaker. AI translationslack these listener-oriented of Japanese, “Japaneseness.”
