Ⅰ. Introduction
- The scanning capillary tube viscometer(SCTV) suggested in this project has been first developed as a clinically applicable blood viscometer in the world, which can detect blood viscosity ranging from low to high shear rates at a single automatic measurement.
- The SCTV has been licensed as a clinical device for blood viscosity measurement from both Ministries of Food and Drug Safety of Korea and the United States. Thus, in order to raise the global competitiveness of the SCTV, clinical test research is essential.
- By successfully completing this clinical test research, one can secure the following advantages;
1) To verify the correlations between blood viscosity and cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)
2) To suggest new surrogate markers using blood viscosity in treating and monitoring the CVDs
3) To procure safety and validation of the SCTV
4) To preoccupy new innovative biomedical technologies in a global medical equipment market
Ⅱ. Scope of the research
- Validation of clinical effectiveness of blood viscometer in the occurrence of ischemic heart disease
Ⅲ. Results
- The clinical effectiveness of the SCTV has been successfully validated in the occurrence of ischemic heart disease(IHD). The detailed results are described as follows;
1) Setup of clinical test system
2) Reference Intervals of healthy subjects: evaluation of the reference intervals of healthy subjects following the CLSI C28-A3 guideline
3) Analysis on the difference of blood viscosity from the patients with IHD at admission
4) Follow-up study on the change of blood viscosity from the patients with IHD for 24 months
5) Investigation on the effect of medication on the reduction of blood viscosity from the patients with IHD
6) Relations between major cardiovascular events(MACE) and blood viscosity
Ⅳ. Application plan of the clinical research results
- To enhance both the national health promotion and the global competitiveness of a domestic health industry technology
- To reduce the recurrence of acute myocardial infarction(AMI) by suggesting the diagnostic risk of AMI using a viscosity-based surrogate marker
- To make full use of blood viscosity as a prognostic marker in determining the improvement of a patient's condition before and after treatment.
- To prevent the occurrence of IHD by controlling the level of blood viscosity of people with the elevated blood viscosity.
- To evaluate the effect of new drug or new health food on the improvement of blood circulation by determining blood viscosity.
