In order to study the effects of grape on acute renal injury, the grape juice and the extract of grapestons were administrated orally to rats which induced acute renal injury by injection of gentamicin sulfate.
Blood levels of creatinine, BUN, uric acid, total protein, albumin, glucose, sodium, potassium, chloride, urine levels of glucose, protein, occult blood, the volume of intake water, urinary output, and the kideney weight were compared among control group and experimental groups to find out the effects of grape juice and extract of grapestones.
The results were obtained as follows :
1. Blood levels of creatinine, BUN, uric acid, and potassium of the groups, administrated grape juice and extract of grapestones, were significantly lower than not treated renal injury group.
2. Urine levels of glucose, protein, occult blood of the groups, administrated grape juice and extract of grapestones, were significantly lower than not treated renal injury group.
3. The volume of intake water, urinary output, and the kidney weight of the groups, administrated grape juice and extract of grapestones, were significantly lower than not treated renal injury group. Consequently, the grapes can be use for the treatment of acute renal injury.
