      북한 과학환상영화의 장르적 의미 연구-북한 문화예술에서 `환상`의 의미와 필요성- = Study on Significance of North Korean Science Fantasy Film Genre -Significance and necessity of `fantasy` in North Korean cultural art-

      North Korean science fantasy film has a similar concept as South Korean SF film, however, as other cultural art field, it is a genre which is defined as North Korea`s own meaning. Here, this research investigated the characteristic in classification system to analyze the characteristics of science fantasy film, which is a characteristic genre of North Korea.
      In North Korea, science fantasy film is defined as a genre that suggests the coming future to children·adolescents through science technology, through this, intends to instruct the vision of socialistic ideal and both refinement and education of science technology which is required for that vision. This methodology was influenced by Hwang Jeongsang`s 『Creation of Science Fiction Literature』 of 1993, and was formalized when it was added as a formal genre of cultural art in the classification system arranged by Ahn Heeyeol in 1996.
      To analyze the meaning of genre, when investigating the characteristic of classification system, it can be confirmed that the genre which shares the similar expressions, i.e. science film and science fantasy film, is located in mutually different classification system. Based on this, this research investigated which difference the concept of fantasy was made in formation of genre, and searched identity of science fantasy film genre through the concepts derived from it.
      In North Korea, the concept of fantasy was contrasting to socialistic realism, the basic creation methodology of cultural art. However, fantasy was adopted to coincide with the meanings that are extended along with change of period. In this process, the points similar to Jackson`s theory, who defined that fantasy reveals hidden aspect and pursuing point out of the reality. Eventually, fantasy of North Korea is not the contrasting concept to realism, but was established as a complementary concept that suggests the parts which realism cannot reveal.
      North Korean science fantasy film fundamentally has genre characteristics which are not different from SF film. However, it can be understood as the movement to meet the transformation of North Korea and demand of the period. Accordingly, studying the meaning of newly defined genre as science fantasy film and investigating the significance of it is also a work to establish the contemporary characteristic of North Korean research. Also, a work to interpret the texts that share the relevant genre characteristics by investigating genre characteristic is to extend North Korean cultural art, that is, methodology of film art research.
