Since a new legal education system (i.e. law school system) was launched in South Korea, South Korea`s legal education has met various new paradigms and issues. One of those is that now only graduates from accredited law schools may sit for new national bar exam. Before the new bar exam in law school system, the college of law system and the state law exam were playing a role of legal training. One of the important points there is that state law exam has not restricted the qualification for taking the exam. Thus, even those who have not graduated from colleges of law have been allowed to take the state law exam as they fulfill certain conditions the state law exam requires. For that reason, the state law exam in South Korea for a long time has been used as a ladder of social success. Even those who are from a poor family could seek to social success by using the state law exam. However, because of launching the law school system, the state law exam is scheduled to be abolished soon. One of the reasons for this change is that lawyer should be trained not by exam, but by legal education. However, not only the law school system, but also the new national bar exam now should meet many critiques because the new legal education system is very expensive. For that reason, many critics argue that those who are from a poor family may not enter law schools and then are not able to take the exam. In particular, the Korean Bar Association now argues that the state law exam should not be abolished for equality on legal training. The Bar Association criticizes the new legal education system because it is not fair. It is just an institution for the sake of the rich. In this context, the presenter would like to explore whether the law school system is just an institution for the rich class, and whether the state law exam should be maintained for equality on legal training.
