In 1997, this clay tablet that recorded the achievements of the governor-general in Imdungun was excavated at the castle site of the Jin Empire and the Han Empire in Jinxi of Liaoningsheng. This clay tablet is the important key to confirm the substantiality and the location of Hansagun, Four Territories under the mandate of Han Empire, that was important in the study of the ancient Korean history. It is difficult to find the location and the trace of Imdungun. Because the substantial year of Imdungun is very brief. According to the tradition, however, Imdungun located in the eastern area of Nakranggun and Hyeundogun. Therefore, this clay tablet will be the important clue to assume the location of four territories under the mandate of Han Empire. Though this clay tablet was one piece, the excavated place was the castle site that belonged to the Jin Empire period and the western Han Empire period Also, this was excavated at the third cultural layer in the castle site. Consequently, this clay tablet is very important to understand the political situation of these times. Because considering this clay tablet and other relics which were discovered around this area, it is suggested that the aboriginal culture was succeed to the culture of the previous age and was incorporated into the Chinese cultural circle. Therefore, the political power of the ancient China firstly conquered, and governed the Manchurian area. According to the historical source, it is in the period of Hansagun that the political power ruled the Manchurian area. Indeed, how is the situation of this area before the Chinese reign. In this area, the culture of Bronze age developed before the establishment of Hansagun. The elliptical bronze sword played the important role in the culture of Bronze age and its culture also was the culture of Gojoseon Kingdom Therefore, this area is under the influence of Gojoseon Kingdom before the establishment of Imdungun that was one of four territories under the mandate of Han Empire. Considering these facts, it is suggested that Hansagun are established in this area. In particular, the early remains related to the establishment of Hansagun were not discovered in the eastern area of Liaoher where a great number of scholars have recognised as the establishing area of Hansagun. The year of the most remains dated to the later period. Accordingly, it is evident that the location of Hansagun not cross Liaoher.
In the result, the remains of the eastern Liaoher that were influenced from the ancient China related not to the topic for discussion of Hansagun but were quiet different from it. On the contrary, the early remains of Western Han Empire in the western Liaoher relate to the topic for discussion of Hansagun and have to discuss it.
In the Korean academic circle, a large number of scholars except for some ones denied the substantiality of Hansagun or thought that Hansagun located in the Han peninsula and the eastern north of China. In this studying process, the main research materials limited to the data of Japanese scholars, and these scholars confined the discussion to examine those conclusion. By excavating the clay tablet in the western Liaoher that was quiet different from the existing viewpoint, however, the substantiality and the location of Hansagun have to reconsider.
In this paper, the author made use of the archaeological data and investigated the topic for discussion of Hansagun. Because this is not only the problem of Hansagun but also the most important subject that was complicatedly related to the ancient Korean history and was the grave clue to it.
