As a collaborative action research, this study aims to examine the experience of young children in the process of implementing a cross-aged transaction buddy program to promote the socialization of young children. Eighty-one young children aged 1 to 5 and eight cooperating teachers from H childcare center in S City, Gyeonggi-do, participated in this study. The results were obtained through participatory observation, interviews, and analysis of cooperating teachers' and researchers' journals. The results are as follows. In the first action, the young children became acquainted with their buddies and learned to get along with each other, even if their reactions were initially stressful. As they opened up, the children discovered new aspects of the buddy. In the second action, the children made decisions about activities with their buddies, and learned to recognize differences, trust on each other, and offer and receive help. In the third action, the children learned that their buddy's pleasure can become their own pleasure, and they learned to consider the other person's point of view, taking care of their buddy. They realized that they could learn from each other regardless of age, and their self-esteem increased through the pleasure of helping others and cooperation. This study is expected to contribute to the promotion of buddy programs for cross-age transaction in early childhood education.
