The purpose of this study is to primarily interpret and organize the post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) from the psychoanalytic point of view, and to suggest the utility of the psychoanalytic theory and the analyst’s desirable attitude in the PTSD treatment through this. To this end, the researcher arranged the occurrence cause for the PTSD, sign and progress process, and theories and perspectives applicable to the treatment through the psychoanalytic theory while examining how to interpret the PTSD attracting more and more attention by the psychoanalytic theory. The positions on PTSD observed from the trauma theory and the object-relations theory by Freud were described, and the theory by Wilfred Bion, a psychanalyst, was linked to Judith Herman’s theorem on PTSD to apply, interpret, and integrate. And then the treatment process through Biton theory and the analyst’s attitude in it were researched to suggest a direction for the understanding and treatment of PTSD through the psychoanalysis.
As a result of study, it was confirmed that the psychoanalytic theory starting from Freud who introduced a concept called psychological trauma was able to provide significant insight and general theories on the interpretation and therapeutic process on the cause and progress process of PTSD along with the trauma theory and the object-relations theory. In particular, the theory by psychoanalyst Bion mentioned his ideas on the cause for general mental illnesses, psychological actions happening in the therapeutic process for those illnesses, and attitude of analyst who analyzed them, and suggested a new direction of psychodynamic therapy through the psychoanalytic theory in treating PTSD.
