콜드플레이의 음악을 통해 본 모던 록에서 하우스 기법 활용 연구 : 자작곡 ‘Words’를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 대중음악에서 EDM과 타 장르 간 융합사례가 증가하고 있다. 이 중에서 하우스와 모던 록의 장르 간 융합사례를 선정하고 제작기법 분석을 통해 새로운 형태의 제작방법을 연구한다. 이 연구에서는 선행연구곡으로 아비치가 프로듀싱한 콜드플레이의 ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’를 선정하였다.
선행연구곡의 제작기법을 파악하기 위해 크게 하우스 사운드와 모던 록 사운드, 그 외의 음악요소들로 나누어 분석한다. 그 결과 아비치의 특징적인 사운드 디자인과 비트메이킹, 필터 오토메이션의 활용 등을 파악하였다. 또한 모던 록 사운드를 구성하는 악기들의 특징적 라인활용과 효과음의 활용, 악기편성을 알 수 있었다.
이 결과들을 자작곡에 적용하는 과정에서 선행연구곡의 시간적 융합방식을 중심으로 장르 간 융합기법을 제시하였다. 이때 모던 록을 중심으로 하우스 기법이 수렴되는 형태의 융합을 위해 곡의 장르적 특성을 강조하였다. 그 방법으로 선행연구곡에서 활용되지 않았던 악기인 어쿠스틱 드럼세트와 베이스 기타를 사용하며 이 악기들이 곡에서 하우스 구성요소와의 충돌하는 것을 피하기 위해 음향적인 방법과 악기연주법을 활용하였다.
이 연구에서 나타난 장르 간 융합제작방법이 단순한 기법활용이 아닌 특정 장르의 발전적 형태의 융합 대안이 되길 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Recently, convergence between EDM and different genres in pop music shows a big rise. This study focuses on convergence cases of house music and modern rock to figure out how new type of production goes in real industry by production technique analysis. In this study, I chose ‘A sky full of stars’ as precedent study song.
To figure out production technique of precedent study song, ‘A sky full of stars’, analysis are in three parts; House Sound, Modern Rock Sound, and Except House and Modern rock elements. Consequently, Avicii’s special sound design, beat making, filter automation and more were discovered. And specific line application of instruments constructing modern rock sound, application of FX sound, and organization of musical instrument were also found.
I propose a way to converge different genre found around chronological convergence method of ‘A sky full of stars’ in applying mentioned conclusion above onto a song writing of mine. In my song, I emphasized characteristics of the song to achieve convergence whose center is modern rock and house converges naturally in it. To do so, I utilized acoustic drum set and bass those were not used in ‘A sky full of stars’ to avoid these instruments collapse house music elements trying out sound and playing techniques.
Hopefully, convergence between genres and genres in this study will not be a simple applicable method but a helpful alternative for those who expect more developing of a certain genre.
