고등학생의 타로카드 활용 진로상담 참여 경험 = A Study on Career Counseling Using Tarot Cards (Focused on High School Students)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 일반계 고등학생을 대상으로 타로카드를 활용한 진로상담에 참여한 학생들의 경험과 연구자의 관찰을통해 진로상담에서 타로카드의 활용 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구참여자들의 참여 계기, 참여 과정에서의모습, 참여 후의 느낀 점이 어떠한지를 연구 문제로 설정하였다. 본 연구의 자료 수집은 2023년 11월 15일부터 2023년12월 25일까지 6명의 연구참여자를 대상으로 FGI를 통하여 이루어졌고, 분석 방법은 연속적 비교 분석법을 사용하였다.
연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 타로카드를 활용한 진로상담에 참여하게 된 계기는 호기심과 답답함, 문제 해결에대한 기대, 미래에 대한 궁금함으로 나타났다. 둘째, 타로카드를 활용한 진로상담 과정에서는 현재 자신의 모습과미래의 모습을 솔직하게 카드에 투영하면서 진로에 대해 깊게 생각하는 모습을 나타냈다. 셋째, 참여 후에는 타로카드상담이 자기 성찰과 재발견의 시간과 진로에 대해 깊고 다양하게 생각해 볼 수 있는 계기를 제공하는 등 타로카드진로상담에 대한 인식이 변화한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 타로카드를활용한 진로상담은 호기심과 흥미에 대한 기대로 학생들이 갖는 부담이 적어 학생들에게 심리적 안정감을 주고, 학생들이 자연스럽게 자기를 표출하고, 자기를 탐구하고 이해하는 데 도움이 되는 측면이 있다. 둘째, 타로카드를활용한 진로상담의 장점 중 하나는 내담자가 직접 카드를 뽑고 상징성을 해석하는 과정에서 자신에 대해 생각해보고 정리하여 그것을 구체적으로 표현하면서 자신에 대해 이해할 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있다는 점이다. 셋째, 타로카드를 활용한 진로상담이 상담의 과정에서 내담자 자신이 기대하고 희망했던 자신의 모습과 다른 모습이 드러날경우, 낙담하거나 좌절하여 상담에 소극적이거나 회피할 가능성도 있으므로 이러한 문제를 극복할 수 있는 상담자의능력이 요구된다는 것이다.

This study aimed to explore the potential of using tarot cards in career counseling for general high school students by examining their experiences and observations. The research focused on three key questions: participants’ motivations of participating in counseling, their behaviors and reflections during the process, and their thoughts after the counseling sessions. Data were collected through focus group interviews (FGI) with six student participants from November 15 to December 25, 2023, and analyzed using the constant comparative method. The findings are as follows. First, students participated in tarot-based career counseling due to curiosity, feelings of frustration, expectations for problem-solving, and a desire to understand their future. Second, during the counseling sessions, students projected their present and future selves onto tarot cards, which encouraged deeper reflection on their career paths. Third, after participation, students reported that tarot card counseling facilitated self-reflection and self-discovery, providing opportunities for diverse and in-depth contemplation of their future, ultimately changing their perception of tarot-based career counseling. Based on these results, the following conclusions were drawn. First, tarot card counseling provides psychological stability by reducing students’ pressure through curiosity and engagement, allowing them to naturally express and explore themselves. Second, one of the strengths of tarot-based counseling is the client’s active role in drawing and interpreting card symbols, which promotes self-understanding through organized self-expression. Third, if the cards reveal aspects of the self that differ from the client’s hopes or expectations, there is a risk of discouragement or disengagement. Thus, it is crucial for the counselor to effectively guide the client through such moments.
