효 사상의 현대적 의의에 관한 연구 = (The) Significance of 'Hyo' in Modern Society

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리 민족은 옛부터 부모에게 효도하고 웃어른을 공경하는 미풍양속을 지녀왔다. 이러한 경로효친의 정신은 우리 민족의 삶과 전통 속에 깊이 스며들어 전통윤리의 중핵을 이루어 왔다. 물질보다는 인간을 중시하고 향락보다는 청렴하고 절제하는 삶을 추구하며 이해타산과 상호경쟁을 앞세우기보다는 인정과 상호존중을 귀하게 여겼던 우리 민족이다.
그러나 해방 후 물밀듯이 흘러들어 온 서구문화의 영향으로 경로효친의 인륜질서는 퇴색되었고, 특히 전통적인 효 사상은 미래의 세대에게 갈등의 요인이 되고 있어 효의 재정립이 필요한 상황이다. 본질적인 효 사상의 의미와 변천과정을 알아보고, 전통적인 효가 우리 나라에 끼친 문제점을 살펴보며, 효의 실천 방안을 모색하는데 본 논문의 목적을 두었다.
이에 효의 의미와 유교, 불교, 기독교적인 효 사상이 우리 나라에 어떻게 뿌리내렸고, 계승되어야 할 전통적인 효행의 방법으로 부모 생존시에는 생육과 신체보존의 효, 공경과 양지의 효, 봉양과 화순의 효, 입신양명과 이현부모의 효, 부모 사후시에는 상제의 효 등 전통적인 효의 방법이 다소 수정되어 적용될 수 있음을 제시하였다.
전통적인 효 사상의 문제점으로는 개인 및 지역 이기주의, 수직적 인간관계와 타율성, 비합리성과 부도덕성을 지적하였고, 효 사상의 현대적 실천 방안을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Korean people have been keeping a decent custom to obey and respect to the elder for a long time. This spirit of respect for the aged and filial piety have been considered to be the most important ethics or traditions in our life. They lived a life which appreciated humanity not for material gain, sought a thrifty and moderate life rather than being an hedonist, and seemed humanism by showing respects each other, not focusing on self-interest or competition. However, it is required to reestablish significance of 'Hyo', due to the flows of western culture since independence from Japanese colony, our traditional spirit- especially 'Hyo' has been a main discord between old and new generation.
Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was to explore the meaning of original 'Hyo' and its changes, also it searched for the problems caused by traditional 'Hyo' and found out the pratical method of 'Hyo'. For this purpose, this paper examined the sense of 'Hyo' and how original 'Hyo' had been build up related to confucianism, buddhism, christian religion. As for the model of traditional 'Hyo' to be succeeded in these days, it made some example of 'Hyo' for alive parents such as 'Hyo' for giving a birth and raising, 'Hyo' for taking care of own body, 'Hyo' for respecting and appreciation, 'Hyo' for supporting and dreading, 'Hyo' for success, and for dead parents, 'Hyo' for keeping the dignitaries of their parents. 'Hyo' for being in mourning and keeping memory.
This study search for a problem of traditional 'Hyo', that is individualism, NIMBY attitudes, vertical (hierarchical) human relationship, heteronomy, inefficiency, immorality, inequitable relationship, abnormal desire to success, etc. On the basis of these discussion, this paper provide present the significance of 'Hyo' in modern society.
