The purpose of this study is to investigate the histopathological change in the lungs of rabbit aspirated amniotic fluid with or without meconium staining from pregnant women. After amniotic fluid were injected into the trachea of rabbits, whether meconium stained or meconium nonstained, it was observed the histopathological change in the lungs, comparing 60rabbits with 1 normal control rabbit according to the duration(24hrs,48hrs,72hrs) and the amount(3cc,5cc) of amniotic fluid injected. The results were as follows; 1. After amniotic fluid were injected into the trachea of rabbits, 1220-2090gm, the following phenomena were found;pulmonary edema, pulmonary hemorrhage, pulmonary congestion, lymphocytic infiltration in the interstitial alveolar septa, severe neutrophil infiltration in the alveoli. 2. The incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the meconium stained group was higher than that in the meconium nonstained group. But pulmonary congestion, pulmonary hemorrhage and interstitial pneumonia in the meconium nonstained group occurred higher than the meconium stained group. Atelectasis was observed only one case in both groups. 3. The incidence of aspiration pneumonis in the meconium stained group was in the case of injecting 3cc meconium stained 40%,40%,80% according to the time passed 24hrs,48hrs,72hrs, and 80%,100%,80% in the case of injecting 5cc meconium stained. The incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the meconium nonstained group was 20T, injecting 3cc to 48hrs passed, and 80%, injecting 5cc meconium nonstained to 72hrs passed. 4. Aspiration pneumonia occurred to the 18rabbits` both lungs and 5rabbits occurred to the right lung and 3 rabbits occurred to the left lung.
