구하천보의 불교사상 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

구하천보(1872~1965) 스님은 구한말과 대한제국, 일제강점기, 그리고 해 방과 대한민국 건국의 과정을 지켜본 선지식 중의 선지식이다. 스님은 성 해남거의 제자로 출가 시부터 통도사를 지키고 발전시키기 위해 헌신하다 열반한 수행납자였다. 스님은 열악한 환경에 직면해도 결코 굴하지 않고 현실을 타개하기 위해 노력했다. 통도사를 기반으로 하여 후학을 지도하 고, 적극적으로 지역포교에 임했으며, 조계종단의 발전을 위해 헌신했다. 본 연구에서는 구하스님의 행장 분석과 함께 축산보림에 기고한 구하 스님의 글을 바탕으로 불교사상을 분석했다. 구하스님의 불교사상은 실용 주의적 개혁, 참괴극기의 계행, 진공묘유의 중도, 대자유의 평등 등 네 가 지로 요약할 수 있다. 이러한 사상은 구하스님의 전법교화 활동 과정에서 구체화 되고 실천되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Buddhist monk, Ven. Guha Cheonbo(1872-1965) is one of the foreknowledge that watched the late Joseon Dynasty, the Korean Empire, Japanese colonial era, independence, and the founding of the Republic of Korea. Ven. Guha was a disciple of Ven. Seonghae Namgeo, devoted his life to protecting and developing Tongdosa Temple from the time of his marriage, and was a Buddhist monk who practiced nirvana. Ven. Guha never gave in even in the face of poor conditions and tried to overcome reality. He guided his disciples based on Tongdosa Temple, actively engaged in local missionary work, and devoted himself to the development of the Jogye Order. In this study, I analyzed the life of Ven. Guha and analyzed his writings contributed to the magazine, Chuksanborim. And based on this analysis, his Buddhist ideas were derived. Ven. Guha's Buddhist ideas can be summarized into four categories: pragmatist reform, asceticism through penance, the middle of ideology and reality, and great equality based on great freedom. These ideas were embodied and practiced in the process of Ven. Guha's missionary activities.
