Polymer/clay nanocomposites have attracted much interest over wide range of scientific and practical viewpoints. For the recent decades, many researches on the polymer/clay nanocomposites have been reported. However, most of these were focused on the synthesis and analysis of nanocomposites. In our previous studies, we have proved the supereminence of Polystyrene-co-functional component having blocked NCO group (MAC) as compatibilizer in PS/PET blend. In this study, we contrived functionalized nanocomposites and used them as a compatibilizer in polymer blends. The PS-co-MAC/clay nanocomposites were prepared through various methods such as solution polymerization, dispersion polymerization and direct melt polymerization, then applied in blend between PS and PET. It is expected that this reactive nanocomposite material enhanced both compatibility and mechanical improvement over the reactive PS/PET blend systems. This is because the addition of reactive PS-co-MAC/clay nanocomposites make the non-pinning conformation of compatibilizer at the interfaces and well-dispersed clay components can act as a reinforcing agent.
