The sterilizing potential and control on mycelial growth of sodium hypochlorite(SHC) were studied. The spawn, composed of cotton waste, was treated with 125, 250 and 500ppm of SHC. The treatment of 500ppm of SHC showed the best mycelial growth and fruit body formation for Pleurotus sajor-caju. The sterilizing potential on 500ppm of SHC showed higher effect than 125ppm. The mycelial growth was slightly inhibited at all of SHC treatment, but also duration for fruit body formation was shortened 7-11 days compared with conventional method.
Results indicate some possibilities that the treatment of SHC protects bacterial disease and contamination on substrate without reducing food quality. In addition, it is able to grow of mycellium and form the fruit body of Pleurotus sajor-caju without sterilizing and fermentation. Application of SHC in substrate bring about the reduction of expenditure and is helpful to increase of profit in a farm.
