      In this paper, I explain the concept of the Socratic method and assess its educational meaning. The Socratic method as practiced today assumes that the teacher already knows the truth and leads the students to find it out by asking them apt questions. I agree with Nehamas that no mode of teaching can be more dogmatic than that. Against the backdrop of such a view, I interpret Socratic education as a process of searching for the truth rather than as teaching per se. With a belief in the autonomy of the soul and its power to learn by itself, Socratic education exposes the inadequacy of moral beliefs the students hold, thus encouraging them to conduct their own investigations. As such, it hold a great educational significance for our moral life.
