The purpose of this paper is to examine the mixed blood character of Yum, Sang Sub’ short story and novels. Yum, Sang Sub was the Realistic novelist whose resistance against the Japanese colonial rule was realized in his fiction. And his rebellious spirit reached his texts like 『Nam Chung Su(남충서)』, 『Love And Crime(사랑과 죄)』 and 『A Son of Liberation(해방의 아들)』. The narrative fiction should have a structure and an various aesthetic element. It must, of course, stand in recognizable relation to life. Such novelist as Yum Sang Sub offers less a relation than a world. in its entirety. Especially Yum, Sang Sub has such a way to create the mixed blood character typical charcter. So in this paper, it is very important to analyze the characters. In the 『Nam Chung Su(남충서)』, the mixed blood character had nihilism in his mind. He joined anti-japan party. So he took a collective action way to be resistants. But he is very rich because his farther was a pro-Japanese person. He paid all the money for the anti-japan groupe, but he never get the recognition. He was compelled to recognize the existence of a political entity. It is the irony in Yum, Sang Sub' novels and the way to create ironical fictions as the result of his ironical understanding. In the text of 『Love And Crime(사랑과 죄)』 I examined Yum Sang Sub' understanding about the ironic character. Because the main character confused his identy. Sometimes he felt irony recognition. He wanted to be a resistants but seeked for spending hiss remaining years in peace and confort. It can be understood the tendency for unification that does not divide the Ironical recognition into Korean and Japanese. And ironic process accords with Yum, Sang Sub' creative method of his fiction. 『A Son of Liberation(해방의 아들)』 is quite different from Yum’s former fiction. The main character name by Jo Junsuk, was changed from japanese to korean. In the space of and the other is fixed. Both of them in effect ironical in accordance with the above-mentioned three stages of ironic existence. For the first time, the title was 『First step』. But later it was changed in thw space liberation from japan. At that time a lot of Korean novels gave expression about patriotic items. And Yum created that kind of character who aided korean people. But as a matter of fact, in the novels, main charater’s role does not accord to writer’s original intention. so he cannot help evade a self-contradiction as the former characters. Of course, we can discern in such character’s acts strengthened novelistic realism. In conclusion, I empathized that the mixed blood character is not only the essential core of the epistemology of Yum as novelist, but also his characteristic technical device which is indispensable for his realism.
