This study is to know cognitive difference in self-directed learning about Social Studies in a type of schools on the basis of preceding studies that approved that ability of self-directed learning is highly related to study achievement and is useful method to improve study achievement.
In order to achieve a purpose of this study that is conducted as followings. After analysing preceding studies on ability of self-directed learning and developing a questionnaire paper in regard to ability of self-directed learning about Social Studies. A survey was implemented on target of 105 students at General High School and 107 students at Foreign Language High School. t-test was conducted to find whether or not there is a difference in ability of self-directed learning among students.
As a result of analysis, there is a difference in cognition toward ability of self-directed learning about Social Studies between these two groups. Foreign language High School students show higher score than General High School students in terms of social tendency, a value of task, self-efficacy, motive preference, self-regulated learning, 3 scopes and 11 lower scopes. However, in a scope of motive preference an answer with passive motive "well doing future social life" highly arises in General High School students.
